40 years of Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum was marked on Saturday 2nd April with a special opening for the 2011 season. Mrs Marie Males, Mayor of Rushcliffe and George Turner, Master of the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters, performed the opening ceremony by cutting, not a red ribbon, but a specially knitted stripy scarf. Chairman of the Trustees Audrey Winkler, gave a welcome address celebrating the Museum’s achievements since the local community saved the original buildings from the bulldozer in 1971. Mr Turner commended the museum for its important role in the preservation of Nottinghamshire’s industrial history. The museum offers a fascinating insight into the life of Victorian framework knitters and is located on Chapel Street. It is open between 11am and 4.30pm Wednesday to Saturday and Sundays 1.30pm to 4pm. Visit www.rfkm.org
