A group of young people and helpers from our twin town of Grenay in France visited us from Friday 28th July until Monday 31st July 2023. Our guests arrived in the early evening and were greeted by member of the Parish Council Twinning sub-committee.
After settling into their accommodation, pizzas, supplied by Ruddington Fish Bar, were enjoyed at the St Peter’s Rooms. Later, Rev. Andrew Buchanan welcomed everyone into St Peter’s Church for an impromptu visit and this was warmly appreciated.
Saturday morning was spent at the Heritage Railway Centre in Ruddington, arriving in a vintage double decker bus. Everyone was treated to rides on the miniature railway and enjoyed looking at all the other exhibits.
After a lunch funded by Artex, the afternoon was spent at Highfields Park playing crazy golf and foot golf, and the day finished with a lovely meal at Ala Turka restaurant in Compton Acres.
Sunday morning saw our guests playing games at Elms Park, including having their first taste of cricket. After lunch, provided by the Co-op, the youngsters visited Nottingham city centre and thoroughly enjoyed the guided Robin Hood Tour.
On the way back to the hotel a fish and chip meal was shared before an early night in bed, ready for departure first thing on Monday.
All in all, it was a very successful visit which was much appreciated by our delightful young friends from Grenay. The ties between our communities have been strengthened and will resume in the near future.
