Nottinghamshire Day celebrations return to Sherwood Forest as part of the Robin Hood Festival on Sunday 25th August.
The recognised county day, now in its fourth year, is an opportunity for the county to come together to celebrate our history, heritage, identity, culture and local traditions.
Throughout the day, you can enjoy a range of activities including craft making workshops, Outlaw Orienteering, poetry writing workshops – not to mention a whole lot of festival fun at Robin Hood Festival, with archery, historical re-enactments, music, comedy acts and much more.
Nottinghamshire Day takes place on 25th August as this date marks the anniversary of the start of the English Civil War, an event triggered by Charles I raising the royal standard at Nottingham Castle in 1642.
Councillor Richard Butler, Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC), said: “Nottinghamshire Day is a date we look forward to each year as it’s an opportunity to celebrate all the things that make our county such a great place to live, work and visit.
“This year, our annual celebrations return to the home of our county’s legendary Robin Hood, RSPB Sherwood Forest, as part of the Robin Hood Festival’s finale weekend. I’m delighted that the county council is working with RSPB again to bring a special family-friendly event to celebrate Nottinghamshire Day.
“What’s more, we’re excited to announce that, new for 2024, Nottinghamshire-themed poetry writing workshops will take place at the event. I encourage everyone – whether experienced or new to writing, to come and have a go. More details will be shared soon at the NCC website.”

“This is such an iconic location for the county in so many ways that it’s the perfect fit for this celebration day. It complements the summer-long Robin Hood Festival, championing the legend of Nottinghamshire’s outlaw hero, our heritage and our wonderful wildlife.”
