Christmas was entirely transformed in the reign of Queen Victoria. She and Albert turned it into a real family celebration and popularised the decorating of the fir tree.
On Tuesday 31st October at 2.30pm, Dr Claire O’Callaghan will present “A Victorian Christmas” at the Framework Knitters Museum on Chapel Street.
Charles Dickens, Sir Henry Cole and Tom Smith will all get a mention, along with Santa Claus and, of course, Victoria and Albert.
Tickets cost £5 and are available from the Museum, or phone Barbara on 0115 921 5253.
