45 years to the day of Contact’s first meeting, a celebration was held with a lunch at The Country Cottage Hotel.
It was lovely to see so many people attend Contact’s special day: creating memories, fun and laughter with a genuine feeling of pleasure that the group is still together 45 years on.
It was also a time of reflection, remembering some of the friends we’ve lost along the way and the happy times we’ve shared.
The first Contact meeting was held at the home of Sheila Johnson-Marshall, whose hope was that as many new Mums in Ruddington as possible be “Contacted,” so no one should feel or be alone.
In those days, the Health Visitor passed on information about the group through lots of door knocking and word of mouth, which resulted in 35 Mums attending the first meeting.
Over the years, Contact has met once every two weeks and has been involved in many diverse activities. These include Sweep the Village, Pram Races, fundraising, trips to London, interesting speakers (and some not so interesting!), holidays, parties, and producing our own panto for friends, family and children.
A book club and walking group / coffee morning are both still thriving, as are the enduring friendships and pride in the Contact “Sisterhood”.
Thanks for the memories, Contact!
