Are you, or do you care for, an adult with learning disabilities? Then you might be interested to know that Mencap Me Time Notts runs a drama group every Thursday at All Hallows Church in Lady Bay. The group, which aims to give adults with learning disabilities greater self-confidence and improved well-being, has gone from strength to strength since it was set up 10 years ago.
The weekly sessions usually include games and workshops covering acting, dance, mime and comedy performances. Group attendees produce and perform annual plays to the public at the church, which included a performance of The Lion King last year. They’re now branching out into film production and hope to organise a film festival to showcase their productions.
Most people who attend the group receive funding from Nottinghamshire County Council to do so. The drama group is part of a wider set of Council-funded initiatives which include a service promoting independence, a gaming group and Mencap’s “Gig Buddies” scheme, which helps people get together for events such as cinema visits and concerts.
