As a village there have been ongoing concerns about the footpath over the railway bridge on Clifton Road. With the development of the Pasture Lane estate several years ago there has naturally been an increase in foot traffic as it is the only access from that area to the village. The footpath is edged by vegetation, is narrow and next to a very busy section of road.
The Parish Council and the County Council have been actively working over a long period to identify a safer route e.g. a footpath at ground level away from the traffic. The obvious land that could be utilised has complicated landownership issues. However works to de-vegetate some areas of land below the bridge will be taking place in the next week or so to enable surveyors to hopefully identify an acceptable ground level route. The project has been included on the County Council schedule of works for this financial year.
