Nottingham Concert Band marked its return to St Peter’s Church in Ruddington on Saturday 20th October with ‘Gathering Places’, an evening of music reflecting special places and memorable moments.
Under Music Director Robert Parker, the band treated a full church to a programme which appealed to all ages. “Our inspiration sprang from a lovely arrangement of spirituals called ‘Gathering Places’, which led us to gather a huge diversity of pieces together,” explained Robert.
“We really enjoyed the challenge of playing musical theatre and swing-time favourites alongside evocations of bustling cities and peaceful countryside, not to mention a couple of surprises which are best described as musical whimsy!”
The proceeds from “Gathering Places” are being donated to two charities nominated by St Peter’s Church: Teso Development Trust and The Mustard Seed Project, which supports children in Uganda.
Founded in 1991, Nottingham Concert Band rehearses weekly in West Bridgford. Enquiries about membership and concerts are always welcome: call Jill or Jeff on 01949 860 126, email music@nottinghamconcertband.org or visit www.nottinghamconcertband.org. The band also has an active Facebook page.
