Our local heritage railway has a packed schedule of events this autumn and winter, starting with their popular Miniature Traction Engine Rally on the weekend of 4/5 October. The event will feature a host of miniature traction engines and steam vehicles, most of which will be in-steam and operating. Miniature train rides will be running all weekend, with full size steam trains on Sunday only.
Sunday 12 October sees GCRN holding their late-season Road Transport event. Their own collection of historic road vehicles will be joined by a number of guests, many with a local connection, whilst the heritage railway will be running steam or diesel services throughout the day.
If fireworks are your thing, you’ll love GCRN’s annual Fireworks Spectacular which takes place on Saturday 8 November. This enduringly-popular evening offers funfair rides, candy stalls, hot food, live music and a licensed bar on top of an amazing display of fireworks. Special heritage train services will run to and from Rushcliffe Halt for people travelling from the East Leake area.
Tickets are available in advance or at the gate for all three events.
All aboard the Santa Special!
Santa Claus is back at GCRN for the 2014 Christmas season, with special festive steam train services running every weekend between Saturday 29 November and Saturday 21 December. Two Christmas Eve ‘specials’ will also be running to really get you into the Christmas spirit before the big day.
As always, there’ll be presents for the kids and the chance to tell Santa what they’d like for Christmas this year, and seasonal refreshments for everyone on board. GCRN’s shop and café will be open for gifts, drinks and snacks, and both the miniature train and model railways will be in operation. Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
