Years ago it was common to see dead hedgehogs on the roadside but they seem to have been replaced by the badger. Badgers whose numbers have greatly increased are able to use their large claws to kill even a rolled up hedgehog.
Angela Hall, a Bingham Chiropodist, who has a treatment room in Ruddington has been helping orphaned and injured hedgehogs for 10 years and qualified at the Vale Wildlife Hospital in Gloucestershire as a registered Hedgehog Rehabilitator five years ago.
Angela, who has cared for many of our prickly friends and released them back into the wild, says that if you have a hedgehog in your garden, don’t give it milk but buy some cat or dog food and this will help this harmless and intriguing little animal who will eat the slugs and snails that do damage in our gardens.
