Become a Parish Councillor
You can become a Parish Councillor and help shape the area where your family, friends and neighbours live by representing them on your local Council.
There are currently vacancies on Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), so we’re inviting residents to apply to become a Parish Councillor to fill these and represent their fellow residents and stakeholders in their local area.
We’re keen to make any individual who’d like to represent their village aware of the ease of the process to become a Parish Councillor. It’s straight forward, with a simple Eligibility Form to complete followed by a short interview. It’s often possible to be co-opted rather than going through an election process; you can find out more about co-option at https://ruddingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk/about-ruddington-parish-council/councillors-staff/parish-councillors-wards/co-options/.
Once you’ve become a Councillor, you’ll be invited to attend and contribute to the monthly Parish Council meetings, as well as meetings of any Committee or Working Groups you’ve chosen to join. You’ll work with your fellow Councillors to make important decisions about our village and take part in votes about any proposed actions.
Claire Dorans, Parish Clerk, said: “Being a Parish Councillor can be exceptionally rewarding and you can help change your community for the better.
“Age or experience isn’t important; you can represent your village as long as you’re over 18. Unlike Borough and County Councillors, you don’t have to be part of a political party or express any political affiliations. So, if there’s a particular issue in Ruddington you feel passionate about or would like to influence, why not apply?
“You could also actively play a part in hosting and co-ordinating community activities and celebrations, such as the recent VE 80 commemorations and our regular Twinning activities with Grenay in France. It can be a great way to help shape our community’s identity and unite people to achieve more.”
For more information about the application, co-option and election processes, and to find out more about what’s involved in becoming a Parish Councillor, please contact the RPC office.
You can call in between 9am and 12:30pm on weekdays, call 01115 914 6660 or email office@ruddingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk. One or more RPC representatives are also usually present at the monthly Village Market to answer your questions.
