Ruddington Parish Council marked Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) this year with a special display in St Peter’s Rooms. This ran from Monday 22nd January 2018 until Saturday 27th January 2018, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945. The theme this year was “The Power of Words,” so the display was made up of posters, poetry, testimonies, booklets, photographs and cards detailing these tragedies.
Ruddington Parish Council’s Admin Assistant, Alison Jackson said, “There’s been a steady stream of visitors coming into St Peter’s Rooms to view our display. It’s good to see that people are still interested in learning about these terrible events as we should never forget the horror of what happened”.
The Council intends to promote HMD next year and, if there’s enough interest, may extend its involvement. It would be really remarkable if we were able to provide a personal, Ruddington ‘feel’ to the event. So if you know of any local connection to the Holocaust or any of the other genocides, or you’re simply interested in helping or providing information, please contact the Parish Council Office.
