Quite a lot if you spend it locally! Research has shown that if every adult in the UK were to spend just £5 a week at their local independent outlets, the knock-on effect could add up to hundreds of thousands – or even millions – of pounds being injected into local economies.
And it’s been suggested that if this happened in Ruddington, our village economy would be boosted by an extra £700,000 a year! The logic behind this is simple – all our local shops, services and businesses have a network of suppliers, many of whom are also local. The suppliers also have their own suppliers, and so the chain continues.
At the moment, we’re lucky to still have a good selection of shops and services in Ruddington, but their days could be numbered if people don’t use them. So next time you find a fiver burning a hole in your pocket do your village a favour and spend it locally!
