The annual Ruddington & District Choral Society (RDCS) Christmas Concert has become one of south Nottinghamshire’s most loved and anticipated Christmas events – and 2019 will be no exception.
So, come along to St Peter’s Church on Saturday 14th December at 7.30 pm to enjoy the great words and glorious music of Christmas.
With Christmas readings and choral offerings, there’ll be plenty to enjoy and lots of opportunities to join in with your favourite carols. But that’s not all! The highlight of the evening will be a performance of Benjamin Britten’s great Christmas choral work, “A Ceremony of Carols,” with harp accompaniment.
Britten’s haunting work, based on anonymous 15th century texts, is almost unique in the way that it combines old English language and plainsong to retell traditional stories surrounding the birth of Christ.
Composed on a small, storm-tossed cargo boat which was dodging German U-boats as Britten returned from the USA to war-torn England in 1942, the work is magical, lyrical, spellbinding, mysterious, poignant and unforgettable in equal measure.
From this strange mid-Atlantic birth, “A Ceremony of Carols” has become an iconic musical landmark and is performed across the world each Christmas.
Tickets for the concert cost £10, including refreshments, and are available from Perkins Hardware, from RDCS members by calling 0115 921 1451, or on the door. For more details, please visit www.ruddingtonchoral.com.
