On Friday 15th June, Bellway held a public exhibition to display ideas for the potential future residential development of land off Pasture Lane. Despite horrendous weather, dozens of people came to St. Peter’s Rooms for more information and were invited to complete comment forms for Bellway to take back with them.
One of the issues raised by a number of those present was the feeling of isolation from the rest of the village mainly due to the lack of decent pavement from Pasture Lane to Churchill Drive especially for families with young children going to James Peacock School. One of the ideas floated to the representatives, was the possibility of having a flat access across the former railway line to connect with the bottom of Vicarage Lane. Such a pedestrian area would be very safe for all residents and would give a much better route to James Peacock School and also the village.
The proposal indicated some form of nature-style reserve area but a number of individuals felt that it would be a pity to destroy what is already present.
As can be imaged, the issue of traffic along Pasture Lane in particular and also access out of Clifton Lane to Wilford Road was raised, together with the view that the additional road vehicles would simply make the central area of Ruddington more difficult than at present.
Currently, so far as we are aware, the Secretary of State has not yet approved the strategic plan for Rushcliffe. It should be noted however, that Ruddington is under considerable pressure to accommodate additional housing and although the total number of houses is not yet confirmed, it is likely to be around 250.
