These rides are very sociable, mostly easy-going and usually involve finding out something/somewhere you didn’t know of, whether it’s a hidden shortcut, nice cycle path/bridleway or a good café/pub.
All rides are free and open to all and will start either outside Sshokwave Bike Shop or the Ruddington Dental Practice – see the Diary page for individual ride details (please note that unaccompanied children must be over the age of 16). The rides form part of 2012’s Rural Rides programme, more details of which are available at www.ridewise.org.uk
The most popular ride last year was the Cycle City Ride – a themed ride where vintage bicycles and dress were in evidence – with prizes for Best Bicycle, Best Dressed etc. Twenty five people rode out, visiting the former Raleigh sites before a tea stop at the Lakeside Centre. The prize for the Best Dressed Man went to Mr D Cavendish of Ruddington.
This year I plan to do the same mix of rides as in 2011 and I hope to organise a bigger better version of last year’s Cycle City Ride – I am currently looking for prize/event sponsors for this. (Julian Bentley)
