On 19th March, I joined around 100 retired and semi-retired residents in the Methodist Church. We were there to hear about the potential establishment of a new University of the Third Age (U3A) group for Ruddington and the surrounding area.
U3A groups exist “to enable members to enrich their lives with new skills and experiences, pursue their interests, form new friendships and enjoy a sense of belonging to a vibrant community.”
At the meeting, members of other local, well-established U3As shared their experiences and the organisation’s philosophy (“run by members, for members”) was explained. The attendees then voted unanimously to start a U3A in Ruddington.
Over the next few weeks, a steering group will put everything in place to enable the U3A to officially launch on Monday 21st May at 2pm at the Methodist Church. All are welcome!
