Nottinghamshire County Council have now completed work on tarmacking Footpath Number 5, which links Vicarage Lane Playing Field to 50 Steps Bridge.
The long-awaited works mean that residents no longer need to trudge through mud and standing water during the winter months to reach the village centre or Rushcliffe Country Park – at least, on this stretch of the route.
The route across the Playing Field itself has not yet been tarmacked, although the County Council hopes to extend the new surface next year if funds are available.
The path on the other side of 50 Steps Bridge, which is gravelled, is owned by Artex so the Council isn’t responsible for its surface.
