Paradise Allotments is a lovely place for growing fruit and vegetables and relaxing after a hard day’s work. However, the plot of land just outside the allotments is choked with thistles and other prickly weeds.
Under the leadership of Parish Councillor Graham Fletcher, the owners of plots have been clearing the weeds and allowing more salubrious fruit bushes to grow. Cameron Bolger, a year 9 student at Rushcliffe who lives in the village, has also been helping them as part of his Duke of Edinburgh volunteering.
Cameron is most interested in the DoE expedition, but to go on the expedition, one must volunteer for the community! Cameron is clearing the weeds and installing a new paved pathway into the allotments for use by the social prescriber group through the NHS. This work will futureproof the allotments for years to come.
Many thanks to all involved.
