A number of comments have been made on Twitter and Facebook regarding the decision by the Parish Council on Tuesday night. I do not wish to address most of these but some comments need correcting.
Firstly, parish councillors have not ‘lined their pockets’. Parish councillors work for nothing for the good of Ruddington. They have not received any money relating to this decision and to suggest they have is libellous. I would suggest that these statements are withdrawn by the editors of the websites, including but not limited to West Bridgford Wire, Ruddington Village and Protect Ruddington. Tweets are the responsibility of the individual poster.
The decision was not ‘pre-determined’. Of course the councillors arrived at the meeting having thought long and hard about this decision. They listened carefully to what was said at the meeting. The views of the over 1,000 people who responded to the survey needed to be taken into account as well as the views expressed on the night by some 20 people – some of whom supported the proposals, and the other views that have been offered to councillors by Ruddington people.
The parish councillors who did not attend were unable to do so because of prior commitments. They all conveyed their views in support of the proposals to me before the meeting.
