Ruddington has a new leisure facility – Petanque, or French Boules.
Over the last couple of years, the Village Plan group have carried out consultation, asking the whole village what they wanted to see in Ruddington. A recurring theme was the request for a greater variety of leisure activities, preferably on the Green. Petanque was one of these activities.
Now, thanks to funding from the Parish Council, a gravel petanque area has been provided in The White Horse Inn car park nearby. Five of the back car parking spaces leased by the Parish Council during the week will be kept free on Sundays for petanque.
The playing area was installed by John Adams Landscapes of Ruddington on Monday 25th March. Anyone can come and play and then, if they want to, relax in the pub afterwards.
The landlord, Andy Hunt, will keep some boules behind the bar for players.
We have a number of existing players who can tell newcomers how the game is played. It’s really easy and everyone can do it, young and old. Petanque is the perfect pastime for a fine summer’s day, so come and give it a go.
