“It was clear from the moment we arrived at the War Memorial, that it was going to be an exceptional day. Although cold, it was a dry morning and the sun made a pleasant and unexpected appearance which meant that the flag bearers would get the benefit even though those of us standing in the street didn’t. The wonderful sound from the Ruddington Cadets & Corps of Drums lead the procession into Church Street from the The Green and so the service began. Some of the marching children were lucky enough to be honoured with laying wreaths on behalf of their organisations and it was clear that the younger ones were very excited indeed! On behalf of all of those who attended – and this year it was more than ever – thank you to all of the organisations and their representatives, the Churches, the children and most of all, the Royal British Legion for a memorable Sunday morning.”
We are printing this photograph of the War Memorial at night in memory of Peter Woodhead who died in November. Peter was a regular contributor to the Village Newsletter and the Ruddington Parish Council website with his beautiful and often humerous photographs. He even has his own webpage in the GALLERY section (click here) called ‘Peter’s selection’. He will be missed by all who knew him.
