After a lengthy break in activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Twinning Sub-committee has resumed Ruddington’s close ties with our friends in Grenay.
In France, Remembrance Day is on 11th November each year, no matter on which day it falls. This year, the people of Ruddington were represented in Grenay by Peter and Deirdre McGowan, Ernie and Doreen Gadsby, and Paul and Ann Tarlton-Weatherall, who laid wreaths on our behalf.
After a quick turnaround, we welcomed four visitors from Grenay, on 12th and 13th November. Grenay sends representatives to our memorial every year. This time they were the Mayor, Christian Champire, his wife, Michelle, and Bernard and Carole Jeannot, who all laid flowers in the name of the people of Grenay.
As ever, there was a poignant Service of Remembrance at our War Memorial with an impeccably-observed silence, followed by a service in St. Peter’s Church. Our guests were made very welcome by everyone they encountered.
We intend to broaden our horizons again and are looking at new Twinning activities in the New Year. In the past, we’ve had groups of young people come to visit, Ruddington Colts have had reciprocal football visits, and our Ruddington Community Choir has done the same.
Our Sub-committee is growing and is full of very enthusiastic people. Why not come and join us – you’ll be made very welcome! Please contact the Parish Council Office on 0115 914 6660 or email office@ruddingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk for more information.
Or, if you have any suggestions for future Twinning activities, please let us know. We’re always open to new ideas.
