As always, the Remembrance events in Ruddington were well-supported by local residents, with crowds flocking to the War Memorial on both days.
The first event to take place was the dedication of the new Roll of Honour board on Saturday 11th November, as part of the Armistice Day service. Then on Sunday 12th November, Reverend Andrew Buchanan led the Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial, followed by Morning Service at St. Peter’s Church.
The weekend also saw reciprocal visits to our twin town of Grenay in France. Twinning committee members Peter McGowan and Ernie and Doreen Gadsby visited Grenay, together with Michael’s son, Peter. They laid Ruddington wreaths at the British Cemetery, the memorial to the French Resistance and the Grenay War Memorial.
The Mayor of Grenay, Christian Champiré, then accompanied the Ruddington contingent back to our village with Alain Deyrolle, Guardian of the enormous French National War Cemetery at Lorette, to lay French wreaths at the Ruddington War Memorial.
