The main intended advantage of a Residents’ Parking Scheme is that it will keep out parked vehicles not belonging to residents.
This is a problem for parts of Ruddington where shoppers and commuters line the kerbside. A ‘controlled parking zone’ favours residents but it is not guaranteed and it comes at a cost.
Residents in a controlled zone do require a permit which can only be issued by the Highways Authority. Visitors also require a permit; typically a household will have one visitor permit. The ‘controlled’ bays are marked out and time plates erected.
There is much interest in Ruddington for schemes, and the likelihood of more parking restrictions in the village centre will inevitably increase demand for residents’ parking to be controlled.
A Residents’ Parking Scheme is a type of traffic regulation order established via a process involving consultation, advertising and publicity. A residents’ petition is usually the first step.
If you are interested in the idea we have an information sheet which is strongly recommended. You can obtain a copy from our website and look under ‘Around and about’ then ‘Transport’, or by contacting the Parish Council Office (see front page) or by calling in 9.30 – 12.30 Monday –Friday.
