Ruddington Community Choir have just returned from their second trip to our twin town of Grenay in North Eastern France. They received a very warm welcome. The group enjoyed a tour of the town before performing in bright sunshine on Grenay’s splendid new bandstand.
Without doubt, the highlight of the trip was the concert on the evening of Saturday 20th October at the Ronny Coutteure Concert Hall. The audience enjoyed a varied programme from Grenay’s brass band, Harmonie de Grenay, followed by a dozen songs from Ruddington Community Choir under their leader, Bernie Bracha.
Their finale, a lively rendition of “Hot, Hot, Hot”, received a standing ovation. Finally, the musicians and singers joined together to deliver a Coldplay medley and “Les Choristes”, a beautiful French song. The “after party” was a jubilant celebration and a lovely buffet was served. There was a wonderful atmosphere as everyone ate and drank together. A few of the French musicians played some rousing tunes, resulting in dancing and much laughter.
Gifts were exchanged on both sides and we thanked our hosts for their generous hospitality. Grenay’s Mayor, Christian Champire, told their guests that, whatever the future holds, they’ll always be welcome in Grenay.
A longer report on the trip will be available on the Parish Council website shortly.
New choir members are always welcome, so why not give it a try? We meet at the Methodist Church on Tuesday evenings from 8pm to 9.30pm. Please contact bernie@brachamusic.co.uk for more details.
