It will come as no surprise in light of advertised cutbacks, that the Police have confirmed the closure of the Police Point at the junction of High Street and Kirk Lane, which will take place sooner rather than later. For around a year now, the Parish Council has been in discussion with the Police with the aim of keeping the Police based in Ruddington, which we believe is absolutely essential. Although the Parish Council does not have a suitable facility to simply transfer all the services offered at the Police Point, it is proposed that the Beat Manager and PCSO will be able to have somewhere to complete paperwork, etc. at St. Peter’s Rooms, along with the usual refreshment and toilet facilities. It is also hoped (subject to Listed Building Consent from Rushcliffe Borough Council) to site a yellow emergency phone at St. Peter’s Rooms. Although this is not a perfect solution, the Parish Council is determined to maintain an on-going Police presence in the village. We are optimistic that the Police will agree to our proposals. Please note that the new facility will not be open to the general public who will need to contact the police through the usual telephone numbers.
