Another very successful horticultural show was organised by Ruddington Gardeners’ Association (RGA) on Saturday 15th September 2018. This year, the show attracted 210 entries from 52 exhibitors. In spite of the difficult growing conditions this summer, there was an amazing display of high quality fruit, vegetables and flowers in St Peter’s Rooms. A wide range of home-made produce showed off the skills of local bakers and cooks.
A new addition to the 2018 show was an exhibition of craft work illustrating the many talents of local residents. A demonstration of spinning, a display of apples from the Community Orchard at Rushcliffe Country Park and a hive of bees from a local beekeeper also attracted considerable interest. Many thanks to everyone who made the show such a success, including members of Ruddington WI who provided much-appreciated refreshments throughout the day.
The only disappointment was the limited number of entries from children. They are the potential gardeners of the future and we very much look forward to their future participation. The long summer holidays are an excellent time for families to prepare their exhibits for the show. Hopefully, next year parents will encourage their children to take part in the show which will take place on Saturday 14th September 2019. There’ll be something for everyone to enjoy, so please keep this date in your diaries!
