The Village Show on Saturday 16th September, organised by Ruddington Gardeners’ Association, was another success in the village calendar of events.
In spite of a somewhat difficult growing season, the show attracted 84 persons to make 249 entries – nearly 100 more than in 2022! St Peter’s Rooms was filled with a very colourful display of vegetables, flowers, fruit, craft items, paintings and photographs.
As usual, the tomato classes were the most popular and it was encouraging to see more entries by children than in previous years.
Our judges, Malcolm and Wendy Fisher, were impressed with the high standard of the exhibits. Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard before, during and after the show.
The refreshments provided all day by the WI were much appreciated, while the Ruddington Yarn Ninjas helped to advertise the event with their eye-catching display topping the post box outside the Co-Op and their wheel barrow of knitted vegetables outside St Peter’s Rooms.
Others who contributed to the success of the show included Nottingham Country Markets, Master Mushrooms and Nottinghamshire Bee Keepers. An added attraction was a super art display and “hands on” drawing and painting by Ruddington and District U3A.
The generosity of RGA members in providing raffle prizes and items to sell on the plant and produce stall enabled incomings to exceed outgoings – “result happiness” in the words of Charles Dickens’ character Mr Micawber!
The next Ruddington Village Show is scheduled for Saturday 21st September 2024, when we hope even more of you in the village will take part, so please keep this date free in your diary. Meanwhile, enjoy your gardening!
