People visiting Ruddington village centre may have noticed a new addition to the landscape by the library. Ruddington WI reached its centenary this year and, as part of the celebrations, has donated a commemorative planter to add a bit more colour to the central part of the village. WI members will keep it looking attractive and seasonal.
Thanks to Kate and Tony Cox of Great British Outdoor Fires for a stunning design and detailed work.
We’ve enjoyed a number of special events so far this year to mark our Big Birthday. These have included a ride on the Great Central Railway with afternoon tea, which everyone enjoyed. (You know the WI and their liking for cakes!) We also had a fascinating visit to the Village Museum and a birthday party with cupcakes and fizz.
These events have all taken place in addition to our usual varied programme of speakers and activities. We’ve already done Bollywood Dancing, and look forward to Indian Block Printing at the meeting on Wednesday 9th October and Kurling on 12th March 2025.
Like all WIs, we’re committed to supporting our local community and this year we’ve undertaken a litter pick in the village and collected nine bags of rubbish, which included a few surprises!
We have a collection at all our meetings for items requested from us by the Clifton NG11 Foodbank, and every month hold a raffle with prizes donated by members to raise money for a local charity that supports women experiencing domestic abuse.
Ruddington WI welcomes all women to our meetings on the second Wednesday of every month at 7.15pm in St Peter’s Rooms. We also have additional regular get-togethers including Coffee and Chat, Craft Sessions and Walking and Visit outings.
Check out the events programme at our website, www.ruddingtonwi.weebly.com, and come and join us to make new friends and try something new.
