On 7th August 2014 Notts County Council announced that they had selected Project Body UK as the preferred choice to take on the running of the centre in The Green, Ruddington, from 1st October. The County Council said “The Ruddington-based organisation proposes to rent the centre on a ten-year lease from the county council, take on the running costs and will also manage youth provision for at least three sessions during the week – maintaining youth sessions at the centre. A number of other community organisations who also currently use the building will be able to continue to operate from there as well”.
Ruddington Parish Council is pleased to see the continuation of youth work and that the facilities will still be available for the other current users.
The Parish Council had put their own proposals for a new Community Centre on the site – which would include youth work and the other users, together with activities currently run at the Village Hall. The Chairman of the Parish Council, Councillor Allen Wood, said “I feel that our proposals reflected a vision for the future that would meet the emerging needs of the village and that this is a lost opportunity. Having said that, I wish Project Body well. The Parish Council will continue to look at all of its assets with a view to ensuring that it spends the Council Tax it receives in the most efficient way whilst catering for as many facets of village life as possible, some of which are not able to be provided at our current facilities.”
