Last year, groups from around the village came together to deliver a weekend of celebrations and activities to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
This year, the coronation of King Charles III will be another special event for us to all celebrate together. Ruddington Parish Council, along with other associations and groups in the village, is organising a weekend of events to mark the occasion.
According to national plans, the Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, will take place across the country on Sunday 7th May, the day after the coronation itself.
On Monday 8th May, members of the public will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering in the community for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. You can find out more about the national plans at www.royal.uk/coronation-weekend-plans-announced.
Following this spirit of sharing and community spirit, Ruddington’s own plan for Sunday 7th May will see St Peter’s Church having their morning service on The Green, followed by a big community picnic from 12pm onwards. Nottingham Concert Band and musicians will be entertaining the residents, while Barbara Breakwell and the Scouts will have games organised for children during the afternoon.
If the weather won’t permit the event to happen on The Green, alternative plans have been made with St Peter’s Church to accommodate the day there.
Monday 8th May is The Big Help Out and with that in mind, the Parish Council and Scouts have organised a village-wide community litter picking day. If you’d like to take part, please contact the Parish Council and provide your contact details. You’ll be given an area and a time closer to the date.
If you missed it last year (or would like to learn more about our village), Gavin Walker from The Village Museum will give two walking tours on Monday 10th May to all those who’d like to discover the history of Ruddington. More info on this to follow.
Please keep an eye on the Parish Council website and our social media pages for the latest updates.
