For 18 years now, some of the older members of our community have been meeting at St Peter’s Rooms every Thursday for a Coffee Morning and Lunch Club. Sadly, these activities may soon come to an end.
Muriel Woodhead, 89, has organised the Lunch Club for many years, but due to recent ill health, has decided to finally retire. Another important volunteer, Anne Monk, is also leaving to support another project in Wilford.
Around 10 people attend the lunch club each week. Not only do they enjoy a meal, delivered piping hot and ready to serve, they also benefit from some lively conversation.
Regular social interaction is important for our wellbeing. Older people in particular can easily become socially isolated, which may then lead to depression.
Please get in touch if you think you may be able to help or if you want to find out more. Hopefully a few people will volunteer and the responsibility can be shared.
Many thanks to Muriel and Anne for their dedicated service over all these years.
