Nottingham Shakespeare Company (NSC) is set to take a step towards the dark with their raw, seductive production, The Tragedy of Macbeth, which will tour the East Midlands from 19th February to 1st March 2025. This includes a performance in Ruddington on Friday 28th February at 7pm at Ruddington Methodist Church.
This spine-chilling show sees NSC take on Shakespeare’s most infamous tragedy, following the story of a passionate couple driven to the brink by ambition. Directed by NSC favourite, Michelle-Louise Wright, this is set to be a brooding, spine-tingling thriller.
“I’ve directed the summer productions until now,” says Wright. “And I’m looking forward to engaging with the bloodier side of Shakespeare.”
Expect something a bit sexier from NSC this season too! “I’m interested in exploring the relationship between Macbeth and his Lady – they’re famously the only happily married couple in Shakespeare – and the entwinement of the two clearly drives the action of the play.”
In this electrifying production of one of the playwright’s most famous and well-loved plays, Wright asks: “What makes a man of honour, a soldier and a general, follow such a dark path? And what place does ‘great love’ have in motivating his Lady to cast her own soul into peril to get him what he deserves?”
A killer cast
Following open auditions so popular that NSC had to schedule an extra day to see everyone, the cast of Macbeth are set to impress audiences across the region.
Starring some familiar faces as well as some fresh new talent, rehearsals are proving that this take on the bloody classic is not to be missed!
Think you don’t like Shakespeare? Think again!
Put down your dusty textbooks, and experience Shakespeare as it was intended – off the page and on the stage! With previous productions hailed as “truly awesome”, “enthralling”, and “superior to many I’ve attended at Shakespeare’s Globe”, NSC has been bringing high quality, accessible Shakespeare to the people of Nottingham and beyond for over five years.
