According to the NHS, to maintain a basic level of health, children and young people aged 5 to 18 need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Being active for at least 60 minutes a day is linked to better general health, stronger bones and muscles, and higher levels of self-esteem.
Adults are also recommended to be active daily, with at least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity (full details at https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/). The Parish Council Events Team have therefore themed this year’s Summer Fayre around Sports and Activities.
The event takes place on Saturday 20th July from 12 noon to 6pm on the Green and will be opened by the new Events Mascot, Ruddy Duck. There’ll be a range of sports and activities for all ages and abilities to try, including Zumba, belly dancing, bowls, petanque and football.
And a visit from the @NottsCricket Nutsmobile will bring a taste of Trent Bridge to Ruddington with small and contained activity challenges for families to have a go and be in with a chance of winning prizes. We’re hoping Nuts the Squirrel will also be able to attend to meet our very own Ruddy Duck and help show youngsters how to get involved in cricket.
Throughout the event, the main stage will host entertainment including choirs singing, Zumba, belly dancers and more. Punch and Judy shows will take place and the local petanque piste will be available to try during the afternoon. Ruddington Kids, who offer Holiday Camps locally, will be providing a small area with free activities for children to enjoy.
The event will also be promoting a raffle with an extensive range of prizes donated by local residents and businesses. All proceeds will go towards the local Scout Hut Appeal, with tickets available on the day and beforehand through local outlets. The draw will take place at the Fayre at 4.30 pm, with prizes drawn by Borough Councillor Jean Greenwood.
If organisers of local sports or activity groups would like to come along on the day to showcase what they offer, please contact office@ruddingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk as soon as possible.
Please come along on Saturday 20th July from 12 noon to 6pm and enjoy the various stalls offering food, drinks, gifts, jewellery, hats, health and wellbeing products, and much more.
