We were very sorry to hear of Sue’s death in Skegness earlier this year at the age of 73. Sue came to Ruddington from Coventry with her family whilst still a toddler in the 1950s. She went to St Peter’s School and then on to West Bridgford.
She joined the Wrens where she met her husband Tony, who was in the Navy. They married in 1969 and came up to Ruddington, with Tony remaining in the Navy until 1985. They lived at Packman Drive with Sue’s parents until they retired to Skegness in 2008.
Whilst living in the village, Sue was elected to represent Ruddington and other surrounding villages on Nottinghamshire County Council in the 1980s and soon afterwards, was also elected to sit on Rushcliffe Borough Council. She served on both councils for 20 years.
The move to Skegness saw Sue doing charity work for Age UK and Sense. Towards the end of her life, she suffered from dementia and heart problems, and died peacefully at home earlier this year.
It’s intended to plant a tree in her memory later this year, with a ceremony to be attended by family and friends.
Sue is survived by husband Tony, daughters Pippa and Lucie, and four grandchildren.
