Friday October 5th 2012 was a very special day for The Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (FoRCP). After receiving the news in mid May that we had been given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, it seemed a long time to wait for the official presentation.
All the working Friends, along with Civic dignitaries and Friends from earlier years, who had laid the foundations for The Friends group, gathered in the classroom. The Lord Lieutenant, Sir John Peace, presented The Friends with a crystal dome and a certificate signed by the Queen. We are all very proud and honoured to receive this prestigious award. The dome and certificate will be placed in the display cabinet in the foyer. The Mayor of Rushcliffe presented The Friends who had worked on the park before 2011 with a pin badge, which has the Queen’s logo on it. The presentation was followed by a celebratory lunch.
