We’re delighted to announce that, after an 18 month absence, the Ruddington & District u3a are fully operating again. During the pandemic, various talks and some interest groups have been held via Zoom or in outdoor spaces or venues when permitted.
The re-launch was started with a stall at the September Village Market and then another one at the Village Horticultural Show. This was a successful opportunity to share information about our re-launch to existing and potential new members.
It was a delight to see so many existing and new members at our first face-to-face general meeting held on Monday 20th September at the Methodist Church.
Attendees heard an interesting and informative talk by award-winning speaker John Smith, on the subject of “Reading Body Language – A Guide to People Watching”.
Following our pre-pandemic format, after the talk attendees had the opportunity to check the interest groups available. They also had time to socialise over a cuppa and a biscuit, which are provided free at each general meeting.
In our commitment to make everyone feel confident and safe when attending our meetings, we adopted appropriate safety measures including hand gel, chair spacing and supporting those attendees who elected to wear masks.
The high number of existing and new members attending was very encouraging, perhaps showing the appetite of people to return to “normal” activities and being able to socialise.
We meet on the third Monday of the month at 2pm at the Methodist Church, so our next meeting will be on 18th October. The speaker will be Commander Neil Jarvis, on the subject “Submarine on Patrol.”
More new members would be very welcome. If you’re retired, semi-retired or not in full time employment and want to meet others interested in the same things as yourself, develop new interests, make new friends or just socialise, then enjoy yourself by joining Ruddington & District u3a.
You’re welcome to attend our next meeting to see what we offer. Or, you can contact us by email at rudd_u3a@yahoo.com or on Facebook by searching for “U3A Ruddington and District”.
We look forward to seeing you.
